Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s determined efforts to cleanse the state, particularly Onitsha, its bustling commercial hub, have proven successful with the recent arrest of 64 suspects.
The apprehended individuals, suspected of being touts and other criminals, were taken into custody in areas like Upper Iweka, Bridge Head, and Chisco Motor Park in Onitsha.
Mr. Solomon Onwuemene, the SASA Director of Operations, emphasized during a parade in Onitsha that these arrests signify an ongoing commitment to eradicating criminal elements in the Onitsha metropolis.
Despite these positive developments, concerns have arisen about certain operatives from state government agencies responsible for maintaining order, who are reportedly causing disturbances for residents.
According to Mr. Chibuike Uloka, a public policy analyst, the presence of touts in Onitsha and other major cities of Anambra State is overshadowed by a more significant issue—what he describes as “official touts.” Addressing this challenge is crucial for the well-being of Anambra residents.
