Apapa Gridlock: Truckers Defy Sanwo-Olu’s Directive, Return, Block Road

In defiance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vacation order, truck drivers have effectively paralyzed the Oshodi-Apapa expressway, inflicting considerable hardship on motorists and residents.

Despite the initial restoration of order following Lagos State’s zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking in the Apapa axis, the last three days have witnessed a disappearance of smooth traffic flow along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway towards port access roads.

Yesterday, a substantial gridlock was evident between Second Rainbow and Mile 2 on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway, in direct contradiction to the governor’s directive.

Furthermore, heavy-duty vehicle drivers have shifted to inner roads like Kirikiri Avenue, engaging in unchecked parking along these routes.

Surprisingly, neither the recently established Special Joint Traffic Team nor the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel were present as of 5 pm yesterday, despite their mandate from Governor Sanwo-Olu to manage the traffic.

Efforts to obtain reactions from Mr. Sola Giwa, the special adviser on Transportation to the Governor, and Bolaji Oreagba, the general manager of LASTMA, were unsuccessful as of press time.

Individuals working, residing, or conducting business in the affected area have faced harrowing experiences while navigating the road.
