Zambia government has withdrawn the retirement benefits and privileges from her former president,Edgar Lungu following his decision to return to active politics.
It’s been noted that Mr . Lungu lost the presidency to Hakainde Hichilema in the 2021 election after which he announced his retirement from politics.
mr.conelius Nweetwa, the government spoke person , reported in a press briefing yesterday that “,the former president has already been notified about the immediate withdrawal of his retirement benefits and privileges.
“It’s clearly stated in the law of Zambia that any former president who returned to politics will loose their benefits.
”
“As a retired president ,Mr Lungu was entitled to three security Officers, a deplomatic passport, three state cars, a furnished house , medical insurance, and funeral expenses on his death. He also enjoys immunity from prosecution.
In a press conference on Wednesday 15th October, Nweetwa said the Zambia former national leader will be treated with equality of law just like other senior citizens of Zambia
