NGO Withdraws Help After Woman Whose Husband Assaulted Her Cries For His Release

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has decided to withdraw support from the mother of five, whose sister, Cynthia Obi, sought public assistance in rescuing her from her alleged abusive husband.

In a viral video, Cynthia detailed her sister’s 11-year ordeal of enduring beatings from her husband. Despite reporting the abuse to the police and NGOs, the husband consistently evaded consequences by using money.

Responding to the distressing plea, Harrison, leading the Behind Bars Initiative, mobilized his team in Abia, successfully locating the woman. He announced the husband’s arrest, with the individual in custody at the Divisional Police Headquarters, World Bank, Aba.

However, an hour later, Harrison revealed that his group had withdrawn the case. The battered wife pleaded for her husband not to be detained, leading to the decision to step back from legal action.
