The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, as the new Commissioner of Police for the Rivers State Command to ensure the efficiency of the police system across Rivers State.
IGP Egbetokun also appointed seven police officers to lead their respective commands as part of ongoing measures to strengthen public security, tackle violent crime, and ensure optimal coordination of police operations throughout Nigeria.
The seven CPs appointed and redeployed include CP George Chuku, who was appointed commissioner of the BNS command; CP Ahmed Tijani, who was appointed to the Jigawa command; CP Dan Shawl, who was appointed to the Niger command; CP Usman Hayatu, who was appointed to the GBS command; IMS command; CP Danjuma Aboki, appointed to the IMS command; and CP Isiak Muhammed, appointed to the OSS command.
The new appointments were included in a signal already issued on Wednesday evening, November 8, indicating that the reassignment of senior police officers would take place immediately.
In this signal, the police commissioner asked the new CPs to exercise their professional competence in the new positions to which they were appointed to lead the entire country.
The new CP in River State replaces CP Nwoni Emeka, a week after Governor Siminalei Hvara accused several police officers of attempting to kill him when he went to assess the damage in the state assembly following the explosion that severely affected the hallowed chamber.
The state assembly also attempted to impeach Governor Hvara, which led to several days of protests by youths in the state, 150 youths were arrested and a youth was killed by a stray police bullet.
Dis’s new appointment comes only seven months after he was promoted from deputy commissioner to inspector general, along with 32 others, and subsequently appointed by the IGP as a key staff member of the IGP to lead and coordinate security and other teams in the IGP’s office.
Prior to that, he served as Deputy Inspector General in the Operations Department of the Police Headquarters in Abuja, and before that as Deputy Unit Commander in the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Rivers Command.
