A man was crushed to death when the stairs of an abandoned one-story building collapsed.
The building, located on Elechi Street, Mile 3, Diobu District, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had been abandoned for some time and was overgrown with weeds around it.

Commenting on the incident, the head of security at Nkpolu Oroworukwo Mile 3 Diobu, Godstime Ihunwo, said that at about 6:15 pm on Wednesday, November 8, he received information that hoodlums were smoking what appeared to be hard drugs in the building.
‘When I received a new complaint from a resident of 38 Elechi Street, Port Harcourt, Mile 3 Diobu, that hoodlums were always snorting hard drugs, I immediately sent my men to the scene.
When we arrived on the scene, the hoodlums had left the abandoned building. But while we were searching, we saw the man’s lifeless body.
‘We also saw that the stairs of the abandoned one-story building had collapsed on top of the deceased. We immediately raised the alarm and drew the attention of residents who rushed to the scene.
We immediately reported the situation to the Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters at Mile 3 Diobu.
