Veteran Juju Singer Peter Akanni Dies at 74

Renowned juju musician, Emperor Pick Peters, whose real name was Peter Akanni, has sadly passed away.

He succumbed to a brief illness on Thursday at the age of 74.

Confirming his passage, music promoter Bimbo Esho, in a Facebook post, wrote: “Omo Ode Ti Ku – The Hunter’s Son is Dead.

“His name should ring bell to all lovers of Juju Music. Emperor Pick Peters one of Nigeria’s great Juju musicians, succumbed to the cold hands of death today in Abeokuta at age 74.

“May his Gentle Soul rest in peace.”

The musician’s death was also confirmed by the chairman of TASMAN Equipment, Prince Tayo Adeolokun.

Peters began his career in 1973 with the release of his debut album, Kango kango l’agogo n dun and went on to release more than 20 albums.

He is popular for the song ‘Omode de’.

In January 2015, Peters and his Seidor International band dropped an album titled Iyanu.

Peters said the five-track album is a follow-up to Igba Otun (New Dawn) which was released in 2012.

The veteran musician disclosed further that the album was written, arranged and produced by him and it was recorded, mixed and produced at Tweet Studio, Buckingham, London, United Kingdom. It was released on the stable of Golden Point, Alaba International Market, Lagos.

Pick Peters made headlines when he engaged in a rift with top juju musician, King Sunny Ade.

The deceased hailed from Ogun State.
