A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Saint Mienpamo, a publisher based in Bayelsa, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
This decision follows his arraignment on charges related to alleged cyberbullying.
He stands accused of making defamatory publications against Major General Barry Ndiomu (retd), who serves as the interim administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling delivered on a Thursday, directed that Mr. Mienpamo be held in the correctional center until the trial begins on December 4.
The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/492/23, names the Inspector-General of Police as the complainant and identifies Mienpamo as the sole defendant. The charge was dated October 13 and filed on October 16.
Mienpamo, publisher of Naijalivetv.com, is standing trial on three-count charge bordering on alleged willful libel, threat, causing danger and insult against the PAP interim administrator. He pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer Terungwa Ananbe told the court that a bail application had been filed.
But Justice Nwite said the application was not in the court records, hence, he could not hear an application that he had not seen.
The judge consequently adjourned the matter until December 4 for trial.
Mienpamo, in one of the counts, is accused of sending a message/post by means of computer system network via his Facebook page ‘Mienpamo Onitsha Saint’ which he knew to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, ill-will and needless anxiety to Ndiomu.
