According to palace sources, Oba Ghandi Olaoye plans to appeal the Oyo State High Court’s decision regarding his Soun of Ogbomoso position.
On Wednesday, Justice Kareem Adedokun declared that the process leading to Ghandi’s appointment was marred by illegalities.
The judge further determined that Ghandi’s nomination by the Laoye Ruling House, state government approval, and kingmakers’ installation were all null and void.
Consequently, the judge granted the request of Prince Kabir Olaoye, the plaintiff, to set aside the nomination and ordered a new selection process.
The plaintiff is one of the candidates for the Soun stool.
A source in the palace quoted by PUNCH urged the public to maintain peace, adding that the judgement would be appealed.
βThe case will definitely be appealed and so, people should not fret,β the source said, noting that the judgement was conflicting.
Ghandi was installed as the new Soun of Ogbomosho on September 8, 2023. The throne became vacant following the death of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi on December 12, 2021. Oba Oyewumi ruled for 48 years and died aged 95.
