Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, who was better known as Mohbad, has stated that his son chose to go into hiding due to concerns about potential attacks from his former boss, Naira Marley, and their associates.
Mr. Aloba offered this testimony during a coroner’s inquest into his son’s tragic passing, which took place at the Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State.
He disclosed that Mohbad refrained from participating in public performances for a six-month period due to the constant threats, harassment, and bullying inflicted upon him by Naira Marley and his associate, Sammy Larry.
Furthermore, the man and his wife conveyed that Mohbad informed them about these attacks, emphasizing that they primarily stemmed from his decision to sever ties with Naira Marley’s brother, Tunde Fashola, and no longer have him as his manager.
“Mohbad was scared of going out for six months. He said he did not know if the substance he drank at the NDLEA will appear at the airport,” Mohbad’s dad said.
He also testified that his son left his house at the age of consent and began to assist Naira Marley while embarking on his own career in music.
According to him, his son assured him that he would be able to handle his dispute with Marley.
Speaking further, Mohbad’s father said he does not trust the late singer’s wife as he claimed the deceased told him she put sleeping pills in his food.
“Wunmi was a very unfaithful wife to my son. My son told me that she used to put sleeping pills in noodles for him and she would go and sleep with a signee in another room in the same house they were living.
“I don’t trust Wunmi one bit. He told me that all the documents of his landed property were in the possession of Wunmi’s mother till today.” he told the court.
