Ekiti Cleric Demands N20m From Chef Dammy Over Alleged Defamation

The founder of Spirit Word Global Mission in Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Prophet Adegoke Jeremiah, has made a demand for N20 million from Chef Damilola Adeparusi, widely known as Chef Dammy, citing allegations of defamation.

This situation arose following Chef Dammy’s public accusation on social media, where she held the cleric accountable for any potential adverse outcomes. She also claimed that for the past four months, Jeremiah had been subjecting her to threats and bullying.

Nonetheless, in a letter dated October 23, 2023, and bearing the signature of his legal representatives from Bisayo Sule & Co Legal Practitioners, the clergyman has insisted on a retraction of the statement from social media and two nationally recognized newspapers. In addition, he is seeking compensation in the amount of N22 million for damages.

Part of the letter read, “In view of the incalculable damage you have done to the good reputation of our client, we demand a retraction of the libelous statement on all the social media particularly your Instagram page, and two (2) widely read national dailies.

“Additionally, we are demanding a sum of (Twenty Million Naira Only).

“N20,000,000:00 being Damages for the act of Defamation against our client.

“Take notice that you have seven (7) days from the date of service of this letter on you, the date of service inclusive to comply with our demand.

“Failure of which we shall not hesitate to seek a redress in the court of law.”
