OPM Suspends Overseas Scholarships Over Forex Crisis

The founder of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has decided to halt all overseas scholarships supported by his organization.

This decision stems from the recent depreciation of the Nigerian naira’s value.

Apostle Chinyere made this announcement through his official Facebook page on a Wednesday. He conveyed that until there is a substantial improvement in the naira’s valuation, the ministry will cease its scholarship program at the University of Benin Republic following the conclusion of the current academic session. However, scholarships for Nigerian universities will remain unaffected.

He said, “All overseas scholarship is hereby suspended. We shall continue to pay the school fees, accommodation, and the OPM free restaurant in Benin Republic till graduation.

“But we would not be adding anymore new students for now until CFA exchange to Naira improves, but only Nigerian university scholarship will continue for now until the dollar and CFA improves.”

Chinyere, who expressed her heartfelt apologies to those impacted by the decision, encouraged Nigerians to seek divine intervention for the restoration of the naira’s strength.

Back in June, the Port Harcourt-based preacher publicly announced his forgiveness of two security guards, commonly referred to as the Happie Boys. These guards had previously accused him of leaving them stranded in Cyprus after initially sending them abroad on scholarships.

Chinyere disclosed that he had temporarily suspended financial support for their scholarships due to the escalating exchange rate of the dollar. He explained that the financial burden had grown overwhelming, particularly with more than 4,000 individuals participating in his scholarship programs.

The clergyman further clarified that this decision affected other scholarship recipients as well. He offered them the option to continue their education at universities in Nigeria or Benin Republic. However, the Happie Boys declined to return to Nigeria.
