The trial of surgeon Anu Adepoju, facing charges related to an alleged evasion of investigation into a failed plastic surgery, has encountered a delay.
The proceedings, initially slated for the adoption of addresses at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday, did not proceed as planned.
Anu Adepoju and her clinic, MedContour Services Ltd, are defendants in a case brought forth by the Federal Competition and Consumers Protection Commission (FCCPC). They are collectively facing a five-count charge related to their failure to comply with an invitation for investigation into post-body surgery complications and the production of requested investigation documents.
This legal case was initially re-arraigned on July 17, 2020, before Justice Mohammed Liman.
Adepoju pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail on self-recognizance.
Justice Liman was subsequently, transferred out of the Lagos division of the court, but he still presides over the case on a fiat.
Trial has since commenced in the suit and the FCCPC has also since closed its case
The defence, on its part, filed a no-case submission for the defendant which the court overruled.
On May 5, 2023 the defence opened its case and called the first defendant as sole witness.
The court has now fixed November 20 for the adoption of processes.
