Police Begin Probe As Borno Commissioner Suddenly Dies

Authorities in Borno have initiated an investigation into the untimely demise of Commissioner Ibrahim Idriss-Garba, responsible for reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resettlement (RRR).

Commissioner Idriss-Garba passed away late on a Friday night at his residence within the 777 housing estate in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno.

Isa Gusau, the spokesman for Governor Babagana Zulum, officially confirmed the news in a statement issued on Saturday. He announced that the police had launched a prompt investigation into the circumstances surrounding the commissioner’s death.

Expressing profound grief, Gusau stated that Governor Zulum was deeply shocked by the news. He added, “The governor shares in the mourning with the late commissioner’s family, friends, associates, and fellow members of the State Executive Council.

The commissioner of police earlier on Saturday visited the house where Idriss-Garba died. The corpse has been transferred to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Idriss-Garba was the governor’s special adviser on special projects before he was elevated and appointed commissioner of RRR, at the commencement of Zulum’s ongoing second term.

His death comes weeks after he was involved in a car accident in the governor’s convoy on their way to the southern part of the state for a tour.
