Senator Abbo Backtracks, Apologises Over Claims Akpabio Plotted His Sack by Appeal Court

Senator Elisha Abbo has retracted his earlier claim that Senate President Godswill Akpabio conspired to have him removed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

On Monday, the court nullified Abbo’s election and declared Amos Yohanna, the PDP candidate, as the rightful winner of the February 25th election for the Adamawa North Senatorial District.

In response, Abbo held a press conference at his Abuja residence, asserting that he and four other senators were being targeted due to their non-support for Akpabio’s ascension to Senate president, an allegation that Akpabio promptly refuted.

However, during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Abbo expressed his conviction that Akpabio had no involvement in his recent legal issues.

“I have to say this with all sense of humility and responsibility that the press release we issued yesterday was premature and based on the available information at our disposal yesterday,” he said.

“As of today, we have discovered a lot of things, and yesterday night I had a discussion with the Senate president, and I am convinced that he is not involved.”

Abbo quoted Akpabio as saying: “I swear by my mother’s grave that I’m not involved. I didn’t even know that you’re in court.”

Abbo further stated: “For a number three citizen to come up to tell me that he has sworn on his mother’s grave, a woman that he loves so much, a woman who brought him up after he lost his father at the age of six, I don’t see a reason why he would lie.”
