The ex-chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has voiced strong criticism against the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, for her recent threat to initiate legal proceedings against the United Nations (UN).
During a press conference held this past Monday, Mrs. Kennedy-Ohanenye made allegations suggesting that the UN had not maintained transparency in its handling of funds received as donations for the benefit of Nigerians.
She issued a stern ultimatum, demanding the UN to provide a detailed explanation within one month, starting from October 16 and concluding on November 15, 2023, or else face legal action from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.
Her comments have been greeted with different reactions.
Joining the conversation on Monday evening, Odinkalu said Mrs Kennedy-Ohanenye should be removed from her position for embarrassing the country.
“Where did @NigeriaGov get this Minister of @FMWA_ng from, pls? For the sake of matters much bigger than anyone of us, can she just be returned to source with profuse thanks for embarassments rendered?” the rights activist wrote on X.
