FCTA Recommends Autopsy Over Death of ‘One-Chance’ Victim Allegedly Neglected at Maitama District Hospital

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken a significant step in response to the tragic incident involving Greatness Olorunfemi.

On September 26, Greatness was ejected from a moving vehicle by suspected criminals operating what is locally referred to as a “one-chance” scheme. This incident prompted the FCTA to establish a dedicated panel to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

Reports indicate that concerned individuals rushed Greatness to Maitama District Hospital; however, regrettably, she did not receive the necessary medical attention and tragically passed away.

Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the Health and Environment Services Secretariat at the FCTA, has spearheaded the formation of this panel. Comprising representatives from the Nigerian Police and other relevant stakeholders, the panel’s primary objective is to ensure that justice is delivered in this distressing situation.

She explained that a Good Samaritan took the deceased to the hospital at 8:35p.m., but she died due to alleged negligence of the medical team at the hospital.

Responding, the medical director of Maitama District Hospital, Dr Imuentinyan Igbinovia, debunked the allegation and said the victim died before she arrived at the hospital.

Not satisfied, the secretary requested for an autopsy and preparation of a coroner’s inquest in addition to the investigation panel to ascertain the cause and circumstances of the death of the victim.

She expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and implored the public to be vigilant and to exercise caution while moving about in the FCT.

The secretary appealed for patience and discretion until the investigations were completed.

She assured of continuous communication with relevant stakeholders, including the family, the Police, and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission among others to ensure that the case is properly investigated.

She also admonished security agencies to strengthen surveillance and protection measures across the capital city.
