In Lagos State, the police brought forward charges against a 45-year-old woman named Victoria Modupe on Thursday. She stood before the Badagry Magistrates’ Court, accused of deceiving someone and obtaining N2.4 million through fraudulent means.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the defendant, who lacks a declared address, faces a single charge of fraud, to which she entered a plea of not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, alleged that the defendant committed this offence on February 13, around 8:00 am in Pota Community, along Mowo Ikoga Road, Badagry, Lagos.
It is claimed that Modupe deceitfully acquired the sum from the complainant, Momoh Musa, with the promise of assisting him in installing interlocking stones at his event center.
The defendant, however, did nothing near the purpose of her payment.
Okuoimose said the offence, therefore, contravened the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015
The trial magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ruled that the sureties, who must be responsible citizens, should reside in Lagos State in addition to being gainfully employed in reputable companies or government establishments.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Oct.19, for mention.
