On Thursday, September 21, 2023, thousands of Lagos residents came together to pay tribute to the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. His recent and controversial passing had deeply moved the community.
Around 5:30 pm, a significant gathering of his fans convened at the Lekki Phase One gate in the Lekki region of Lagos. They were all dressed in white t-shirts proudly displaying Mohbad’s image.
This poignant scene provided a stark contrast to the lively melodies of one of Mohbad’s songs, ‘Peace,’ which resonated throughout the venue.
Expressing the frustration that was felt by many, a fan of the late singer told Saturday Beats, “When I get home, I will rain curses on the killers of Mohbad. He did not deserve to die young.”
The procession moved from Lekki to the Muri Okunola park on Victoria Island in a 30-minute journey.
One of the highlights of the event was when pop star, Davido, mounted the stage.
Also dressed in the shirt bearing Mohbad’s picture, he said, “Rest in peace, Mohbad. Aside from justice being done, I call on all entertainers and influencers in Nigeria to come together and make sure that his child, wife and his parents are taken care of.”
