The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the February 25th election, Peter Obi, was notably absent from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which convened at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
As of the latest update on Wednesday, the tribunal had already ruled against the double-nomination allegation made by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Mr Obi attended several sittings of the tribunal prior to the judgement day. One time, the renowned writer and one of Obi’s famous supporters Chimamanda Adichie was present in court.
Obi is represented in court by the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, a lawyer.
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar also stayed away from the tribunal. He attended sittings sparingly.
The tribunal is ruling on petitions made against the electoral victory of President Bola Tinubu by the Labour Party (LP) and Obi; the PDP and Atiku among others.
