The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially ended the tenure of Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Sarafa Isola. This decision was communicated through a letter dated August 31, issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.

The directive within this letter instructs High Commissioner Isola to return to Nigeria by no later than October 31, 2023.

It’s worth noting that Sarafa Isola had been appointed to this esteemed role by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021.

The letter reads: “I have the honour to notify you of Mr President’s decision to recall you, signalling the end of your tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Kingdom.

“By this communication, you are now expected to commence the process of winding down your affairs, and take formal leave of your host government within sixty days and to return to Nigeria by 31 October, 2023 at the latest.”

Isola’s last official engagement was on August 28 where he spoke at a breakfast business meeting in London facilitated by Apostle Lawrence Achudume, in collaboration with Pomegranate Nigeria Limited. The meeting was held at the Intercontinental Hotel at 02, London.

Isola was one time minister of mines and steel development between (2007-2008). He also was at a time the secretary to Ogun State Government (2003 – 2007).

He was appointed special assistant (SA) to the minister of finance in 2009.
