Life of a Female Bolt Driver in Lagos - Donsethbeat (Photos)

This was the conversation I had with one of my Bolt drivers a few days ago. She has been a regular customer of mine for over year.

One of the days I had an emergency work call in the midnight, then decided to book a ride, lo and behold it was a woman, and that was some how strange considering the time of the night. I wanted to cancel the ride because of security reasons. I would have preferred a man in case of eventuality, at least he can activate the James Bond mode. πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

But on a second thought, I decided to see this woman who has the effontry to drive at night, then she arrived, lo and behold, she was actually a young lady, hymm! We exchanged greetings and started the journey, she was cautious and professional.

As we hit the road, Omo this girl hit lekki express way with full confidence and dodged every pot hole with precision, but I needed to pick up a friend at VGC, so she took me there at the dead of the night, parked and waited till my friend came and we continued.

When we got to my destination, I wanted to transfer her money, I noticed that the name on the count is Igbo, so I asked her where she is from, lo and behold she is from Abia state. I teased her and told her that I know it’s only an Igbo woman that can hustle like this. We laughed and cracked some jokes in Igbo language. She told me that we should call her when we are done with out meeting so she will come pick us up. Hymmm!

When she left I told my friend that this lady is on target, this level of hustle is not done with clear eyes, something bigger than death is motivating her and for the fact that she chose the hard way when other girls are doing hook up and other funny things, we will make patronising her a priority.

Long story short, she became my one call person whenever I wanted to do a serious trip especially airport trips and business meetings and I don’t bid or negotiate a price with her.

One of the days, I told her that I seriously wish she was putting this level of work abroad, she will make serious money, she smiled and said God go doam.

So a few days ago when I called her and her line was switched off, I sent her an offline message and she broke the news to me, I was super excited that God did it for her and Nigeria didn’t happen to her in the course of her hustle because I always say a prayer for her in my mind whenever she drops us off especially night trips.

As a woman, let Queen motivate you, hook up is just one way to make money, there are thousands and one other ways to make money with your dignity, ego, and mind intact.
