Olumide Akpata, the ex-president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has transitioned from Templars law firm to engage in active politics, as confirmed by the firm’s press release on Thursday.
The firm stated this in a press release on Thursday, saying: “The Partners and management of TEMPLARS wish to announce that a Senior Partner at the Firm and the immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olumide Akpata, has formally informed the Firm of his decision to participate in active politics.
“On account of this, and in line with the Firm’s governance protocols, Olumide Akpata and the Partners of the Firm have agreed that he disengages from the Firm with effect from 31st August 2023. This will enable him to fully focus on his project of contributing towards nation building.”
Akpata’s resignation comes weeks after he confirmed joining the Labour Party (LP).
He is believed to be interested in contesting the 2024 governorship election in Edo.
Akpata, the 30th president of the NBA, said in a separate statement that his decision to resign “became inevitable in view of my recent foray into active politics with a view to contributing towards the critical task of nation-building.”
“Indeed, the story of my life will never be complete without a chapter devoted to the central role that TEMPLARS played therein,” he added.
