George and Okanta Emefiele, siblings of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, have chosen to retract a lawsuit they had previously lodged against the government.
The lawsuit had been directed towards the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
Justice E. Okpe of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday struck out the case following its withdrawal.
The Emefiele brothers took the AGF and the DSS to court over the alleged infringement on their fundamental human rights on account of issues surrounding the embattled former CBN governor.
The AGF and the DSS did not oppose the withdrawal of the case.
Meanwhile, Emefiele’s expected arraignment at the FCT High Court over an alleged N6.9 billion procurement fraud has again been stalled.
The case was first stalled on August 17 following the absence of the second defendant in the case, Sa’adatu Yaro.
She was said to have taken ill and could not make it to court.
Justice Hamza Muazu has rescheduled the case to August 23 for the defendants’ arraignment. However, on Wednesday, the matter was not included on the list, and lawyers from both sides were absent from the court proceedings.
