On Tuesday, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) laid to rest Flight Lieutenant Ibrahim Abubakar, the pilot of the NAF MI-171 jet that tragically crashed in Niger State.
Abubakar was interred in Zaria, Kaduna State, following a poignant prayer held at Haruna Danja Jumma’at Mosque, led by the esteemed Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Gumi.
NAF personnel, the bereaved family, friends and well-wishers were present at the burial.
The family of the late pilot had earlier performed a proxy funeral prayer (Salatul Gha’ib) for the deceased at Gaskiya corporation mosque in Tudun Jukun, Zaria.
Abubakar Adamu, elder brother of the deceased, explained in an interview that the family performed a proxy funeral prayer in absentia for the deceased when they could not receive the pilot’s corpse.
“When we concluded that we might not see the corpse of late Ibrahim, the family decided to conduct a funeral prayer for the deceased in absentia which was observed on Thursday as ordained by our religion, Islam,” he said.
A’ishatu Adams, the mother of the departed, shared with Daily Trust that her son, the 27th child in their family, was cherished by everyone for his exceptional character.
