Anambra man accused of beating his 8-year-old daughter into a coma.

The capital of Anambra State, Awka, has announced the arrest of 33-year-old Chinedu Adim for allegedly beating his 8-year-old daughter until she fell into a coma.

Mr. Adim, a commercial tricycle driver from Lokpa in Abia State, claimed that his wife deserted him along with two of their children.

The daughter, who is currently on life support after being beaten into a stupor on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, is said to have been brutalized by the suspect because he has allegedly been using hard drugs since his wife left. She is said to have been beaten until she lost consciousness.

Nevertheless, the suspect refuted the accusations during questioning and claimed that the daughter’s unpleasant experience was spiritual.

The suspect married twelve years ago and has two children: a girl named Blessing, who is now eight years old, and a boy named Blessing, who is six years old. He revealed that he was a former member of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) before entering the Keke business.

He added that after his shop burned down eight years prior, his wife left him.

When asked what happened to the daughter, he said that the 8-year-old woke up one morning with injuries on her body, but he was able to see that while bathing her.

He claims that when he questioned her, she claimed she had no idea how the scars appeared on her body and mentioned that when she woke up, she could see lines on it.

He asserted that this had happened three times in a row before she was finally taken to the Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Amaku Awka, where she fell into a coma and has been on life support ever since.

The victim was beaten until she fell into a coma, according to the report, state Women and Social Welfare Commissioner Hon. Ify Obinabo said, referring to the victim’s story as “folk tales.”.

She claimed that the girl was beaten by her father, who claimed she had been beaten in a dream, until she was rendered unconscious and taken to the hospital on Tuesday. To justify his actions, he had assumed she would pass away.

Mrs. Obinabo advised parents to consider the kind of punishment they give their kids in order to avoid hurting them, while also advising them to do so in accordance with the child’s age.

Obinabo assured that her Ministry was prepared to see that the victim received medical care to ensure her survival, but added that the suspect would be turned over to the police for additional questioning and possible prosecution.
