Olokoro Youths Cry Out Over Indiscriminate Arrest, Extortion by Officers of Police Anti-cult Unit

 

There is palpable fear among young men in Olokoro Community, Umuahia South Local Government Area over continues extorting, harassment and indiscriminate arrest by officers of the anti-cult unit of the Nigerian Police Force in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital.

 

It will be recalled that following some activities of cultists within Olokoro, the Nigerian Police Force Abia State command drafted it’s Anti Cultism Squad who now occupies the Olokoro Police station.

However, our correspondent gathered that the officers have now focused their attention on any young man driving flashy car, with dreadlock among others.

 

One of the community youths Comr Peter Asonye(not real name) who spoke to our correspondent called the Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti to wade into the situation before it gets out of hands as young men are now deserting the community over the activities of these officers.

 

“Just on Saturday during the Monthly excercise, these officers arrested 42 Youths within Isi Court and Olokoro and extorted thousands of money from them before they could be set free”

 

“The other day, these officers invaded a Bet9ja shop in Isi Court junction and arrested everyone found in the shop including the owner of the shop, huge sums were extorted from them before they were eventually released”

 

“Youngmen are now fleeing their own community because once these officers see you with a flashy vehicle or dreadlock, they will bundle you into their vehicle and extort money from you” he said.

 

Recently, the same officers were caught on camera flogging a student of Abia State University to enter their operational bus which was condemned by all.

 

 

The New Commissioner of Police in Abia State it was learnt had warned these officers who were caught on camera and vowed to deal with them of he receives any other evidence about their extorting activities.
