1st 21 Days: Nigerians Compare Tinubu vs Buhari

By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah

To effectively tackle corruption and revive a dwindling economy, a new government must prioritize a multi-faceted approach. First and foremost, it should establish a strong anti-corruption framework by implementing transparent and accountable governance systems, strengthening investigative and judicial institutions, and promoting whistle-blower protection.

Additionally, implementing comprehensive financial reforms, such as enhancing fiscal discipline, reducing wasteful spending, and promoting fair and efficient taxation, can help address the economic challenges.

The government should also focus on promoting a favorable business environment, attracting foreign investment, and fostering entrepreneurship through targeted policies, streamlined regulations, and infrastructure development.

Tinubu has taken these measures in such a short period of time. Cleaning the Augean stable is a metaphor for dealing with a big and deeply established problem. The Augean stables in Greek mythology were notoriously filthy and packed with years’ worth of accumulated trash, appearing to be impossible to clean.

Similarly, addressing corruption and a dwindling economy can be seen as a Herculean task for a new government. It requires bold and comprehensive actions.

President Tinubu’s fast and decisive actions within his first 21 days in office have drawn comparisons with President Buhari’s slow start in 2015. This stark contrast has not gone unnoticed, as Nigerians from different regions highlight the gains for democracy that Tinubu’s rapid action brings.

Aisha Yetunde, a Lagos resident, affirms, “Tinubu’s swift start in office is a breath of fresh air compared to Buhari’s slow approach. It shows that a leader can make a significant impact in a short amount of time. This is a gain for democracy as it demonstrates that effective governance is possible.”

From the North, Ibrahim Abdullahi of Kano emphasizes the positive effect of Tinubu’s fast pace. “As a resident of the North, I can say that Tinubu’s fast pace has injected much-needed energy into our nation. Buhari’s slow start left many of us disillusioned, but Tinubu’s actions have renewed our hope in the democratic process and its potential to bring about positive change.”

Chinyere Okonkwo, hailing from Enugu, expresses her satisfaction with Tinubu’s administration. “Tinubu’s administration’s quick response to key issues sets a precedent for effective governance. Buhari’s slow start was frustrating, but with Tinubu, we see a leader who is ready to hit the ground running. This is a win for democracy and the people of Nigeria.”

In the nation’s capital, Abuja, Ahmed Ibrahim emphasizes the significance of Tinubu’s fast approach.

“The contrast between Buhari’s slow pace and Tinubu’s fast approach is remarkable. Tinubu’s administration has shown that it understands the urgency of addressing Nigeria’s challenges. This is a significant gain for democracy, as it proves that leaders can act swiftly and decisively to bring about positive change.”

These voices from different regions echo the sentiment that Tinubu’s fast start as president holds great promise for Nigeria’s democracy. It signals a departure from the slow progress experienced under the previous administration and renews hope in the potential of effective governance.

As Tinubu’s administration continues to unfold, Nigerians across the country eagerly anticipate the tangible impact it will have on their lives. The contrast between Baba Go Slow and Baba Go Fast serves as a reminder that proactive and decisive leadership can drive the nation forward, ultimately benefiting its people and strengthening the fabric of democracy.
