Yoruba Drag Pete Edochie for Not Prostrating on the Floor to Greet Ooni of Ife (Video)

Yoruba people from Southwest Nigeria are currently dragging Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie for not Prostrating on the floor to greet the Ooni of Ife.

A video recently shared by actor Kanayo O. Kanayo sparked a mixed reaction from netizens.

The footage captures the moment when Kanayo and Pete Edochie greeted the Ooni of Ife at an event, raising questions about the actors’ adherence to traditional customs.

In the short video, the Ooni can be seen seated as he receives a backhand greeting from the Nollywood veterans. The clip, taken during Elizabeth Jack Rich’s 40th birthday dinner party, has ignited a debate among social media users.

While some criticized the actors for what they perceived as a lack of respect for tradition, others placed blame on the Ooni himself. The reactions online have been mixed, with contrasting opinions on the appropriateness of the greeting exchanged between the Yoruba monarch and the Igbo actors.

Kanayo shared the video on his Instagram page, along with a caption expressing his enthusiasm for the event and acknowledging the presence of Pete Edochie and Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan, the Ooni of Ife. Kanayo wrote, “Last night was awesome @peteedochie @babarex0 @chidimokeme and the very outstanding His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan, Ooni of Ife.”
