UPDATE: Phones Now Allowed Into Presidential Election Tribunal as Lawyers Stage Protest

As at 7:30am today 23rd May 2023, people were in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal at the court of Appeal Abuja and already seated.

IgbereTV correspondent at the venue reported that people were being asked to go out of the courtroom and submit their phones as phones will not be allowed in.

Security personnel subsequently stood at the entrance, and produced Zip-Lock Bags for the visitors and Lawyers to drop their phones inside, and then, keep these locked bags at the entrance of the court..

However, the lawyers present started arguing seriously at the entrance saying:

“… If Live-Streaming is not in the constitution,, then, does that mean that dropping phones outside before entering the courts are also in the constitution too??

“Let us be doing only the things that are inside the constitution…”

The tensed situation led to Mini-protest at the entrance of the court, as they were chanting..

“…No Phones,, No Court…”

The lawyers eventually had their way and the ban on phones and gadgets were lifted…
