Coalition of South East Equity Forum a pressure group within the All Progressives Congress APC yesterday described the alleged plot by the party to zone the position of Senate President to the South South as unbecoming contending that it doesn’t make for balancing in the country”s power sharing equation.
The body further urged the National leadership of the party not to allow what they called inordinate ambition of other geopolitical zones to derail the peace within the party.
According to the Spokesman of the body and Anambra South Senatorial District Chairman of the party Mr Izuchukwu Okeke, the only way to ensure equity in the party is for the South East to produce the next Senate President of the country.
“We are aware of the agitations of the South South for the position of the Senate President but it is instructive to note that it is only the South East that is not represented in the power shearing equation ‘
“Consequent upon this we after a two day meeting have resolved that the choice of a Senate President from the South South is unacceptable to us and we make bold to state that the South South has produced the President of this country hence would amount to injustice for the zone to produce the next President of the Senate ”
The body further contended that it’s President elect got the statutory twenty five percent spread in the South East hence those piloting to deny the South East the position are just being unfair and unreasonable.
“When you talk about the support given to Sen Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the last general election our Candidate got the statutory twenty five percent spread in the area hence the argument about support to Tinubu doesn’t hold water and should be dismissed”
“This yet another way to tell the South East that they have no inheritance in the house of Jesse and an indication that the old dangerous flame of ethnic profiling has continued to thrive irrespective of the contributions of the the South East to the formation and growth of the party since it came on stream ”
“Recall the role of top South East members of the party at its formative stages such as Sen Orji Uzor Kalu , Sen Chris Ngige, Chief George Moghalu, Gov Hope Uzodimma, Sen Osita Izunaso, among others and one wonders why at this stage there contributions are not been taken into sharp focus ”
We urge our National Vice Chairman South East and other leaders of the Party in the zone to see it as a task that must be accomplished in the coming dispensation” the body said.
