Youths demand govt intervention over bandits attack, killings in Taraba communities

The unabated killings in Takum and Ussa local government councils of Taraba State, as well as Yangtu Special Development area of the state, has become a source of concern to Kuteb youths.

The youths who on Wednesday at a world press briefing in Jalingo, claimed that over 250 persons have been killed and over 80 communities destroyed, called on the relevant authorities to come to their aid.

The youths called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigeria Border Community Development Agency, and Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), to immediately help the communities.

The youths led by Ure Caleb Danjuma, reeled out the effects of the bandits’ attack on the community, asking relevant government agencies to rescue displaced persons dying on a daily basis due to lack of food in the camps.

The youths who were reacting to Police claim that the killings are a result of herders’ and farmers’ clashes, urged the security operatives to jettison such claims.

“What is happening in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas and Yangtu Special Development Area is not farmers-herders attacks and reprisal attacks or search for missing cows.”

“It is a large-scale invasion of an innocent group of people by a set of bandits who are nothing other than terrorists.”

They described the situation as horrific and pathetic, saying women, men and children have lost their lives, while many children are now orphans, left in harsh environments to cater for themselves.

”The situation on ground requires large-scale humanitarian support for the displaced persons. Unless the Nigerian government rises to this occasion, more villages will be destroyed, more people will die, more children will become orphans and many more people will be displaced.”
