The Abia State House of Assembly, on Tuesday voted to impeach its Speaker, Hon. Chinedum Orji.
Although details of the impeachment remains sketchy as at the time of filing this report, but a ranking member of the House from Abia North Senatorial District who preferred not to be named confirmed the action of the lawmakers to Igbere TV on Tuesday morning.
IGBERE TV gathered that Kennedy Njoku (Osisioma North ), moved the motion of impeachment and was seconded by Hon. Chijioke Chukwu ( Bende North).
Mr Orji, representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, lost February 25 national assembly poll for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.
Mr Orji, son of the former Governor Theodore Orji, lost to the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Obi Aguocha.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Uma Oke, said the LP candidate polled 48,199 votes to defeat Mr Orji of the PDP, who scored 35,196.
He said Ogbonnaya Obilor of APC had 4,042 votes, while Ogbonna Abariukwu of APGA got 2,758.
IGBERE TV could not reach Mr Orji on phone to react to the impeachment by the lawmakers.
