Minister of Agriculture, Desmond Elliot, Others At Tingo Foods Facility Launch

 

Tingo Foods Processing Facility Launch: A Monumental Step towards Revolutionising the Food Processing Industry in Africa

Ishiperpe Village, Onicha Ugbo Aniocha North LGA, Delta State, 9th February 2023 – Today marks a significant day for the food processing industry in Africa as the foundation laying ceremony of Tingo Foods Processing Facility took place with top government officials, dignitaries, and representatives of the agricultural sector in attendance. The facility, set to revolutionise the food processing industry in Nigeria and across Africa, is the first of its kind and is expected to be operational in 18 months, creating 12,000 jobs, and has an estimated investment of 1.6 billion dollars.

The facility will process a range of food products, including fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, tea, coffee, chocolate, biscuits, cooking oils, non-dairy milks, carbonated drinks, mineral water, and more, making it a great addition to the African food processing industry. Tingo Foods aims to provide a sustainable source of food for future generations and make farmers the heroes of the story.

“Today, we make a giant leap forward towards revolutionising the food processing industry in Africa,” said Chris Cleverly, President of Tingo, Inc. “The launch of the Tingo Foods Processing Facility is a proud moment in our long-standing mission to provide a sustainable source of food for generations to come and empower the hardworking farmers who make it all possible.”

The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, praised the project as the first Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone and highlighted the importance and impact of private sector investment. He noted its crucial role in the development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

The President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Dr. Farouk Rabiu Mudi, spoke about the positive impact this facility would have on the agricultural industry and the surrounding communities.

“As a critical stakeholder in the agricultural sector, AFAN is proud to be associated with Tingo,” said Dr. Farouk Rabiu Mudi, President of AFAN. “This project is a testament to Tingo’s commitment to bringing positive change to the agricultural industry and the communities within, and we encourage farmers to fully support its successful foundation laying ceremony launch.”

Tingo Foods PLC CEO, Neha Mehta, expressed her excitement about the project and emphasised the company’s mission to transform the food processing industry in Africa.

A representative of The Governor of Delta State, spoke of the Governors support and excitement in seeing this investment made in the State. He spoke of the power of cooperation between the public and private sector stating, “This is exactly the type of project that should be under a Public-Private Partnership.”
Drawing from Dr. Cleverly, the Governor is keen to make the farmer the hero of the story.

His Royal Highness Obi Chukwumaleze of Onicha Ugbo, welcomed Tingo Foods PLC and its processing facility to the area, expressing his support for the initiative.

“On behalf of the people of this region, I extend a warm welcome to Tingo Foods and its processing facility,” said the King. “We are eager to support this initiative and excited about the positive impact it will have on our community and the wider agricultural sector in Nigeria.”
