NCAA Threatens To Ground Airlines Over N19bn, $7.6m Debts

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said it will not hesitate to suspend the certificates of air operators defaulting in the payment of debts.

NCAA director-general Capt Musa Nuhu said local airlines are owing over N19 billion and $7.6 million on ticket charges which they have collected from passengers but have refused to remit to the agency.

Nuhu said this at a briefing in Lagos on Tuesday with members of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and ground handlers.

The regulatory agency said all airlines indebted to the NCAA must enter an MoU on how they will pay their debts in the next 30 days from August 30, 2022 or their licences will suspended at the expiration of the deadline.

Nuhu further said airline operators are painting government agencies black over their current woes.

He also said that the NCAA and other agencies are set to review agency charges after 13 years, adding that NCAA charges are far lower than Ghana’s.
