Tinubu’s Ally, Kemi Nelson, Dies at 66, APC Mourns

A former Lagos State commissioner for women affairs and poverty alleviation in the Tinubu administration Kemi Nelson has died.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s chief press secretary Gboyega Akosile confirmed her death in a tweet, saying she died on Sunday.

“We lost a dear soul to the cold hands of death earlier today. May the soul of the late Chief Mrs. Kemi Nelson, former Southwest Women Leader of the @OfficialAPCNg,” Mr Akosile wrote.

“Rest in Peace and may God grant her immediate family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this loss.”

The 66-year-old struggled with an ailment before she passed on.

She was the executive director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

Nelson was a close associate of Tinubu although they both contested the Lagos West Senatorial District seat in 1992. She was a member of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) at the time.

The socialite was the women leader of Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress before holding the position of south west women leader of APC.

Nelson was notably the only female member of the Lagos State governor’s advisory council (GAC), the highest decision-making body in APC Lagos.
