Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu has ordered the suspension of sit-at-home order which the group earlier gave to be observed every Monday in the south-east.
The group’s spokesman Emma Powerful stated this in a release over the weekend.
Mr Kanu’s intervention followed concerns from stakeholders in the region about students taking the National Examination Council (NECO) exams being affected by the sit-at-home order.
Aba, Onitsha and a few other cities had observed the sit-at-home order last Monday.
However, the statement from the group announcing Kanu’s order said, “The suspension of the Sit-At-Home by the IPOB Head of Directorate was as a result of an order from the leader of this great movement, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“In accordance with the directive from our leader, our Sit-At-Home will, in the meantime, be observed on the date of our leader’s court appearances.”
Kanu is currently in detention for offences bordering on treasonable felony.
The weekly sit-at-home protest, which commenced on August 9, according to the group, was meant to prevail on the Federal Government to release him.
Kanu’s next court appearance is on October 21.
