Tears of Joy as Church Offers Scholarships to Indigent Students in Aba (Photos)

The Afternoon Church, one of the fastest growing churches in Aba, the Enyimba City, on Sunday offered scholarships to indigent secondary and university students in the state.

Pastor Akachi Nwoke, Lead Pastor of the Church, said that the scholarships were for the students till they finish their education in Benin Republic and that the beneficiaries were selected from less privileged families in the city.

“We had a crying service as parents of our International Scholarship Students came around to receive admission letters alongside their children.
One of the beneficiaries had graduated from secondary school for nine years without admission. Another of the beneficiaries has given up on going to school as none in their family had been to a university. He said.
Speaking further, the vibrant young Pastor says “The Lord asked us to sponsor their education abroad from now till they graduate including their accommodation.
We are sending them as missionaries. They will bring Jesus harvest. They will make heaven smile”. He concluded.
The Afternoon Church, also has The Free School with over 3,000 children in Nursery, primary and secondary education for the past three years. The school is completely free. The Afternoon Church has alot of other social projects.

According to the church, the scholarship was a way of encouraging students who were exemplary in their studies but could not further their education because their parents were not able to sponsor them. This philanthropic gesture includes international scholarship awarded to 20 youths as well as free WAEC registration for 10 secondary school students.

In response, one of the beneficiary, …….., said she felt excited as the scholarship came as a surprise to her and that she was glad to be so honoured.

A mother to one of the beneficiaries, said she was excited about the offer to her son.

Another Mother of one of the students also said she had to struggle to pay off the balance of her daughter’s school fees as examinations were about to commence in school.

”It is a very big relief to hear I no longer have to worry about my son’s University education. This will give me room to save for other basic needs in the family,” she said.
Even older generations were not left out of the life changing gesture of the Afternoon Church as Pastor Chika Orih, an associate pastor of the Aba based church, was gifted a car to ease his mobility.
