Kano High Court Restrains Gov Ganduje From Deducting Staff Salaries

A Kano High Court has issued an interim injunction restraining Governor Abdullahi Ganduje alongside four others from further deduction from the salaries of members of the state chapter of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

The workers took to court after Mr Ganduje allegedly deducted their November and December salaries amounting to over N80 million.

An ex-parte motion filed before the court on Tuesday by their counsel F. I. Umar was equally supported by a 36-paragraph affidavit.

Justice Usman Na’abba also mandated the defendants and whoever acting on their behalf to comply with an earlier agreement dated December 19 that was entered between the two parties pending the determination of the motion on notice.

The case was adjourned to January 28 for further hearing.

Speaking on the matter, chairman of the union in Kano Muktar Lawal said the workers were shocked to notice deduction in their salaries for November and December 2020 which prompted them to seek legal action.

Meanwhile, the state government has reverted to the N18,000 minimum wage, saying it is unable to pay N30, 000 as minimum wage due to recession occasioned by COVID-19.
