Cross River Police Command has confirmed that armed robbery and kidnap suspects attempted to escape from its headquarters in Calabar on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Irene Ugbo said on Monday that three escaped and not 19 as speculated.
“Only three escaped. Two of them were gunned down while one was rearrested.
“The girlfriend of one of the suspects procured the saw which was used to cut the lock before they escaped,” she told the news media.
It was gathered that the station guard and some other officers have been detained over the incident.
