Protesters Vandalise Nigerian Embassy In Indonesia

Protesters on Thursday vandalised the Nigerian Embassy in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta.

This comes less than a week after a building on the premises of the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana was demolished.

In video clips shared on social media, the protesters, who are Nigerians, are seen protesting alleged discriminatory practices and infringement on their fundamental human rights by Indonesian immigration officials.

“Nigeria is not helping us in this country. We don’t have an Embassy. We no go gree,” they chanted carrying placards.

A white bus on the premises of the embassy was destroyed, including windows and doors of the building.

The mob also brought down the Nigerian flag and shred it into pieces.

Condemning the attack late Thursday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, wrote on Twitter: “Absolutely deplorable and disgraceful criminal behaviour by Nigerian hooligans who without justification attacked the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia today.”

The minister assured that the perpetrators would be ‘severely punished’.
