Festus Keyamo Mourns Legendary Singer, Majek Fashek

Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has mourned the late reggae star, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, describing him as an “extraordinarily gifted musician”.

Majek died on Monday in New York, United States. News of his death spread on Tuesday.

Mr Keyamo said in a tribute posted on Twitter that Majek’s version of ‘Hotel California’, first recorded in 1976 by Eagles, was one of his favourites.

“R.I.P my big brother, Mr. Majekodunmi Fasheke (aka Majek Fashek), the ‘Rain Maker’ and extraordinarily gifted musician. They don’t make them like you anymore,” wrote the minister.

“Your remake of the song ‘Hotel California’ remains one of my favorites and, of course, the ever green, Send Down the Rain!”

Adulations have been pouring in for Majek who died aged 57.

The Edo-born singer worked with various artistes worldwide including Tracy Chapman, Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, Jimi Cliff and Michael Jackson.
