The Senate arm of the Students’ Union Government, University of Port Harcourt, on Monday, disassociated herself from a certain memo from the Executive President that ” The Uniport SUG writes Minister of Education, accuses VC aspirant, Prof Owunari Georgewill of recruiting cultists against University management”

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday by , Sen. Ali Dickson Izuchukwu, Senate President, the UNIPORT SUG said Prof Owunari Georgewill who has been a professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology for the past 10 years and has meritoriously served the University and the country in many capacities.
The statement added that VCship contest is a management affair and as such, Students’ leadership should focus more on pertinent issues affecting our dear Students than joining in a management fight.
The Statement Reads in Full ;
STUDENTS’ UNION  GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT
THE SENATE
To whom it may concern;
RE: IMPENDING BREACH OF THE PEACE IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT
We bring you aluta greetings from the hallowed Chambers of the Students’ Union Government, University of Port Harcourt.
The Senate arm of the Students’ Union Government, University of Port Harcourt by this notice hereby disassociates and distances herself from a certain memo from the Executive President that ” The Uniport SUG writes Minister of Education, accuses VC aspirant, Prof Owunari Georgewill of recruiting cultists against University management”
The Senate took this stand for the following reasons;
1. The Senate arm and most of the Executive members, including the Secretary General of the Union were not informed of this memo, and as such, the memo is NOT a representation of our collective thought and opinion as a union.
2. The Senate does not have any evidence of the alleged cult related activities against the personality of Prof Owunari Georgewill who has been a professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology for the past 10 years and has meritoriously served the University and the country in many capacities.
3. VCship contest is a management affair. As such, Students’ leadership should focus more on pertinent issues affecting our dear Students than joining in a management fight.
We therefore appeal to the visitor – the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Minister of Education to ensure a smooth transition process that will sustain peace and conducive learning environment in the University.
We also enjoin our beloved Students to remain calm, focus on their academics and ensure strict compliance to the protective measures against the ravaging Corona Virus pandemic.
Stay safe as we hope to see you all soon.
Best regards!
Yours in Service
Sen. Ali Dickson Izuchukwu
