Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Thursday, appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari led administration for choosing the State as one of the pilot states in the country that benefited in the intervention scheme designed by NDE to address the challenge of mass unemployment in the country.
In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Thursday, the Special Assistant on Media to Governor Umahi, Mr. Francis Nwaze, said Ebonyi State youths numbering 5000, yesterday, received credit alerts of the sum of 20,000 Naira from the federal government through the National Directorate of Employment.
According to the statement, Ebonyi State was selected as the pilot state in the southeast, Nigeria for the NDE Special Public Works Scheme.
He noted that the 5000 persons drawn from the rural areas of Ebonyi State were engaged under the NDE Special Public Works Scheme which is currently under its pilot phase.
The reads in parts ;
“The beneficiaries under this scheme will be deployed to provide services specific to their localities in areas such as cleaning of public infrastructure, maintenance of public facilities like roads, vegetation control, clearing of drainages, and the likes. And each participant will receive the same for the next three months.”
” After the pilot phase, Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Governor David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE will by August begin the engagement of 13,000 youths from the state for the second phase of the scheme which will last till 2023.”
