Only One COVID-19 Test Done In Kogi, Seven In Cross Rivers, Says NCDC

Figures revealed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday have shown that Kogi State sits at the bottom of the table of states, with only one test done and no coronavirus cases recorded.

The state government has severally alleged plots to ‘import’ the disease into the state.

NCDC figures also showed that Cross River had yet to record a coronavirus case as of Monday.

According to the report, Kogi submitted only one sample while Cross Rivers submitted seven.

Since the outbreak, a total of 36,899 samples have been tested with 6,175 positive cases, 1,644 cases discharged and 191 fatalities recorded. Thirty-four states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been hit hard by the virus.

Lagos State has the highest figures of confirmed cases and fatalities.

The NCDC had visited Kogi in the first week of May, but the state claimed that the agency’s officials “fled” the state when they were asked to undergo tests for COVID-19.

Kogi Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, in a statement, claimed the state got testing kits independently but followed NCDC guidelines.

He added that 111 COVID-19 tests were done but they all came out negative.
