Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has lost his uncle, Yusuf Bayero, the district head of Dawakin Kudu, at the age of 89, Igbere TV reports.
Kano emirate said he died on Sunday after a brief illness and has since been buried in accordance with Islamic tradition.
Igbere TV recall that Yusuf was turbaned in 1993 as Dan Iyan Kano by the late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero.
He is survived by one wife and 12 children.
Yusuf had held various positions with the defunct Kano Native Authority (NA).
The emirate also confirmed the death of Sarkin Dogarai, Muhammad Lawan, who also died early Sunday.
