The Presidency has debunked rumours that the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Public Affairs, Ajuri Ngelale, was responsible for the leak of the President’s unedited broadcast script for April 27.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a Twitter thread on Thursday that Mr Ngelale was not pointed as the culprit.
“A tsunami of fake news has sadly been unleashed on @AjuriNgelale, our hardworking colleague in the Presidential Communication Team following the leakage of the last address to the nation by the President before it was read,” Mr Shehu wrote.
“Those behind the fake news must have a plan to distract Ajuri as he bestrides the nation’s communications landscape, taking the Buhari government to the citizens via radio and TV.
“No Villa Staff was pointed to as a suspect, and certainly not Ajuri who was not in the line of transmission of either the draft or the final copy of that speech.
