Saraki Mourns Cross River Senator Rose Oko

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has paid tribute to the late Senator Rose Oko who died in a UK hospital on Monday.

Saraki was head of the Senate when Oko was first elected to the upper legislative chambers in 2015 to represent Cross River North Senatorial District.

In a post on Twitter on Tuesday, Saraki described her as ‘soft-spoken and kind’.

He said: “I have received reports of the passing away of Senator Rose Okoji Oko with a great deal of shock. As a colleague at the 8th Senate, she was soft-spoken, kind and committed to the task of improving the welfare of her community and country.”

He added that the vacuum created by her loss would be hard to fill.

“I pray God grants her rest and strengthens her family through these trying times. Amen.”

Oko, 63, was said to have been out of the country for about four weeks with complications arising from high blood pressure.

She was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
