Lagos Reduces Number Of People In Public Gatherings To 20

Lagos State Government has insisted on restricting all religious and social gatherings to a maximum of 50 people.

The state government announced this on Saturday after 10 new cases were recorded in the country, seven of them identified in Lagos.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the directive against the congregation of more than 50 persons in a single location would be enforced.

Mr Omotoso confirmed that despite conflicting figures on various media outlets, the number of persons restricted from gathering in public or private events remains 50 individuals.

β€œThe position of the Lagos State Government on gatherings stands – NO gathering should be more than fifty (50) at a time,” he wrote on Facebook.

The commissioner urged residents to remain calm despite the discovery of more persons testing positive to the virus, adding that the government was prepared to handle any eventuality.

The state government had earlier said via Twitter that the number of persons allowed to gather at a time had been reduced to 20.

Of the latest 10 cases of the virus, three were discovered in the Federal Capital Territory while seven were tested in Lagos, the Federal Ministry of Health said on Saturday.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 22.
