We Didn't Banish Sanusi From Kano – Kano Government

Kano State Government says it never banished the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, from the state.

The state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Ibrahim Muktar, denied the allegation on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television.

“If you listen to the Secretary to the State Government, when he was addressing the press on the issue of the removal of the emir from office, there was nowhere he stated that the emir was banished from Kano State,” he said.

“So, the decision of the government when the emir was removed on Monday was that he was removed from office and a new one appointed. The issue of banishment was not part of the decision of the Kano State Government.”

Sanusi was on Monday escorted out of the palace following his dethronement. He was then driven several miles to Loko, Nasarawa.

The deposed monarch on Tuesday moved to Awe town, another location in Nasarawa.

His lawyers say they will be challenging the banishment in court, saying it violates Sanusi’s rights.
